Default Winch: not working

Got a new winch earlier last year. I thought I'd upgrade from a free MileMarker 9500 (came with bumper) since I used it so much. I used it at least 40 times in 2008. The new T-Max EW-9000 WCP is much lighter and had the shorter drum-which I preferred. I used the winch once in 2009-to spool in the line. This last weekend, when I needed to pull a down tree, I found the winch not functioning. It seems the winch isn't getting power. I'm not sure if controller is bad or something more serious. The winch also won't free spool when I released the lever to the free spool position. Given that I've put in 6 new holes into the AP bumper just to make this thing mount correctly has made me a bit perturbed!

Any ideas on how to start to trouble shoot this? I've checked the battery terminals and they seem to have good connection. I wonder if the connectors on the controller are working properly, but I dont' know how to check it.

Thank in advance for your help.

Tony,
Whack the solenoid. Then try it. Sometimes they stick.

I cant explain why it wont free spool other than if you clocked it you didnt put it back together properly and it is binding.

I wish I hadn't sold it now. lol. I took the controller apart tonight and it looked ok. The solders are in decent shape. Not sure what to do next.

I'm thinking corrosion and the contact brushes. Also at least spool it out, wash the rope and wind it in once a month to keep in working. Mine worked fine for years then one day just sucked, had to dissasemble, Found tons of rust and, clean, lube and rebuild it. if you still got an issue and nobody else is availiable, I will be back on the 10th. I know it's a drive but ya know.
